Popeye: CG and 3D

Proving that every movie will be in 3D from now on, Sony announced that it is bringing an animated Popeye adaptation into the world. Three dimensions of spinach-eating action!

Avi Arad, the man who brought us the Spider-Man trilogy, is producing. Mike Jones, an up-and-coming scribe, is writing the script. No word on voice casting or release date.

An excited Arad on the muscled sailor:

“I literally started singing the famous Popeye song (after securing the rights). What always blew me away is the level of the animation. It was so beautiful and unbelievably detailed.”

Unbelievably detailed? I don’t know if that’s what I want to see in a Popeye movie. Regardless, if done correctly, Popeye could prove to be a lot of fun to watch on the big screen. Over-the-top fisticuffs in an oceanic setting, all in eye-popping 3D? Sounds like a blast to me!
