Ricky Gervais will return as the host of the Golden Globes next year.
The co-creator of The Office and Extras will host the 68th Golden Globe on January 16, 2011. He lead this year’s ceremony back in January, the first host in years.
Here’s Gervais in a released statement:
“I can’t believe they invited me back after awful things I said. Let’s see how far I can go this time.”
Critics were mixed on Gervais’s performance. Some said his jokes were in bad taste, some said they didn’t push the envelope enough. One thing’s for sure: more people were watching. The telecast’s ratings were up 12% over last year. The nomination of Avatar might have had something to do with that though.
As I’ve said before, I’d watch Ricky Gervais read from the phone book so I’m totally on board for this.
