Is this the end of Michael Scott?
Steve Carell recently sat down with BBC Radio and was interviewed about Date Night. However, at the end of the chat, Carell evidently dropped a bomb regarding his hit show The Office.
Interviewer: How long will you stay with The Office for? How many more series? How long does your contract run?
Carell: Contract through next season.
Interviewer: And will you stay after that?
Carell: I don’t think so. I think that will probably be my last year.
There have been some rumors regarding Carell and the future of The Office. The show, which is now in its sixth season, has been a critical and fan favorite since its debut in 2005. However, some have said that it’s about time for the show to wrap things up, seeing as how two of the main characters have been married and have a baby and several character arcs have concluded. In fact, one of the only questions left to answer is “who will Michael Scott (Carell’s character) end up with?”
I can see the show ending on a high note if they go out before things get stale. Perhaps it’s best that the show ends when Carell leaves, instead of dragging things out without him.
If Carell is in fact leaving the series next season, expect to hear more about it soon.

Total bummer to hear this, but I guess it would be best for the show to go out on a high note like you said. Still, definitely will be upset when it goes. Community is great too though, and it’s still just getting started.
I think this kind of shows the class-act that Steve Carell is. A man who knows not to overstay his welcome, even though we would want him around for years to come as Michael Scott. I only hope that the show will follow suit. It’s been one of my favorite shows since the first season (I missed the first 3 shows, but caught the last 3 so I was a little late on the wagon) and while I will hate to see it go, it’s always good to see something go out on top.
