One of the greatest shows of all time, THE TWILIGHT ZONE, is getting the big screen treatment, again. Leonardo DiCaprio has been trying to produce a feature length film based on the classic sci-fi series for a few years now but the guy’s got a full plate and the project seemed stalled for awhile. I seem to remember reading Rand Ravich was attached to pen the script a few years back but apparently that fell apart.
Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros and DiCaprio have now brought on Jason Rothenberg to write the script for the film. Rothenberg’s filmography is brief but he has two movies, THE SPARROW and THE FORBIN PROJECT, on the way. As for the story itself, details are spares. Will the movie be three different stories like the TWILIGHT ZONE movie from 1983? Or will Rothenberg take one Serling tale and expand it into a full-length movie? There’s a lot of ways this film can be made…and a lot of ways it can be made poorly. Yet, I have faith in DiCaprio and give him the benefit of the doubt. THE TWILIGHT ZONE was such a classic show, one full of mind-blowing and original stories. Rothenberg has an opportunity to bring this phenomenal show to a new generation and I can’t wait.
No word on when THE TWILIGHT ZONE will hit theaters or who will star or direct.
