Mary J. is solid as a ROCK

Mary J. Blige has made it clear.  No more drama!  This must be why she is in talks to be in a musical.  According to Vulture, the “Real Love” singer is in talks to star in the film adaptation of the 2006 musical ROCK OF AGES for New Line.  Blige is not yet signed but said to be “all in” to play the role.

Tom Cruise is still in talks for a role in the film, though no longer as Bourbon Room owner Dennis Dupree but rather as the villainous rock singer Stacee Jaxx.  Original stage writer Chris D’Arienze is adapting the script and Adam Shankman (HAIRSPRAY) is directing.

The story follows a young rocker hungry for his big break and a small town girl chasing her dreams, both of whom land on the LA rock scene just as a legendary Hollywood venue is facing its demise.  Blige will play Justice Charlier, the owner of the exotic dance venue ‘Venus Club’ on the Sunset Strip.

So will it be more interesting to see Blige belt out Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” or see Cruise channeling David Lee Roth with his own version of “Just Like Paradise”?  Blige already has a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven” out on her latest disc, so her singing a rock music isn’t completely foreign territory.  Either way, I’m “all in”.
