We here at Very Aware are big fans of Jeremy Renner. From his Oscar-nominated performance in THE HURT LOCKER to his turn in THE TOWN to 28 WEEKS LATER, the guy’s got some chops. When we found out that he would be playing Hawkeye in Joss Whedon’s THE AVENGERS, it was icing on top of an already delicious superhero cake. For the uninitiated, Hawkeye is a master archer, affiliate of The Avengers and all around badass.
TheWrap is now reporting that we’ll see Renner suited up with the famous bow and arrow before THE AVENGERS hits theaters in May 2012. The site’s source claims that Renner will be making a cameo in Kenneth Branagh’s THOR. The source didn’t elaborate on the size of the appearance (many believe Hawkeye’s screen time will be brief, like Samuel L. Jackson’s in IRON MAN). All they said was that he’d definitely be in the action film starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman.
Now we’re not sure what to believe. Back in November 2009, Renner made some statements regarding Hawkeye appearing in THOR. “If I was a betting man, I would bet that Hawkeye would probably show up in THOR,” Renner said. He later retracted his statement. It now appears that his initial speculation was correct.
I sure hope Hawkeye pops up in THOR. The character can be a lot of fun and would tie the movie together with THE AVENGERS even more. Plus, we all know how I feel about Renner.
THOR opens May 6, 2011, nearly a whole year before THE AVENGERS.
