Are you ready for this? WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING: The Movie!

It is with deepest regret that I inform you all of this.  According to Deadline, Lionsgate has set director Kirk Jones (NANNY MCPHEE) to direct a romantic comedy adaptation of Heidi Murkoff’s how-to manual What to Expect When You’re Expecting.  Heather Hach (FREAKY FRIDAY remake) wrote the first draft and Shauna Cross (WHIP IT!) did a rewrite.

Just so we know where to send those angry letters, Phoenix Pictures’ Mike Medavoy, Arnie Messer and David Thwaites are producing, and Doug McKay is co-producer. The book has sold north of 16 million copies, and is being turned into a pic in the vein of LOVE ACTUALLY and VALENTINE’S DAY, where five couples experience the surprises that happen when a stork visit is imminent.

For the love of all that’s good and holy.  Hollywood, can we please stop turning non fiction books into films?  No one likes them.  Please see HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS as my prime example.  While the book is uproariously hilarious, the film was completely unable to capture the magic of those wonderful stick figure illustrations in the book.

I would probably be right on the money predicting WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING will be the cinematic equivalent of afterbirth.
