Bill Hader is the best part of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. He’s a part of a very talented cast but he outshines them all time and again. Not only is he great on the show but the man’s picked some terrific movies to be in (SUPERBAD, ADVENTURELAND, a small bit in PINEAPPLE EXPRESS). Hader’s next film is PAUL and the actor sat down with The Playlist to talk about that film and other plans he has for the future. One thing is clear: the guy is aiming to please comedy fans like myself.
The first project Hader talked about was HENCHMEN, a movie originally written by Russell Sharman, Owen Egerton, and Chris Mass. Hader is currently working with The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer to re-write the script with plans to make it for Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Productions. Schaffer would direct and Hader would star.
Here’s Hader’s take on the story:
”[21 Laps] came to us with this script that Akiva and I are now reworking…The film is about two guys who don’t realize it, but they’re two henchman for like the badguy in a ‘Bourne’ movie and then they slowly figure who that they’re working for the wrong guys”
Akiva Schaffer working with Bill Hader sounds like comedy gold to me. Schaffer’s work on HOT ROD will always hold a special place in my heart.
The other film that Hader is looking to make sounds like it might be something really, really special. Written by Rob Siegel, the scribe behind Aronofsky’s THE WRESTLER and writer/director of BIG FAN, the movie would be a biopic of comedic impersonator Vaughn Meader. Meader made it big in the 60′s parodying President Kennedy and then saw his career dissipate after JFK’s assination.
“He does this insane, amazing JFK impression and then JFK gets assassinated and his whole career goes away.”
It would be great to see Hader try something darker, especially when it’s being written by Rob Siegel, a guy who turned comedian Patton Oswalt into a bonafide dramatic actor.
I could watch Hader play Stefon for years and still find it amusing. However, I’d like the guy to get out there and take the movie world by storm. We need more smart, likable, funny guys on screen.
Thanks again to The Playlist for their exclusive scoop.
