A trailer for newcomer Dan Rush’s film EVERYTHING MUST GO debuted today (at Apple, thanks to Collider) and it shows some great promise. The film stars Will Ferrell as an out-of-work, out-of-marriage, out-of-home man who decides to sell all his earthly possessions in a massive yard sale.
If you think this will be another loud, manic, man-child Will Ferrell then you’d be wrong. The Ferrell in this seems subdued and kind of broken, much more subtle than his other work. His performance is what will draw me to the theater. I’m always looking to see actors play against type and I think Ferrell has potential to wow me. There’s a gentleness to him that I’ve also admired.
The movie is based on a short story by Raymond Carver and is adapted and directed by Dan Rush. It also stars Stephen Root, Rebecca Hall, Michael Peña, Laura Dern and Christopher Jordan Wallace. And, yes, you see a glimpse of Glenn Howerton from IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA at the beginning of the trailer, another reason to see this.
Take a look below or head over to Apple to see it in crisp, clean Quicktime.
