TEEN WOLF
Rating: PG
Studio: MGM
MSRP: $19.99 but Amazon has it for $14.49
Running Time: 91 mins
What’s Going On?
Scott is tired of living a mediocre existence working at his dad’s hardware store and being on a terrible basketball team. Soon he discovers that he can transform into a werewolf at will. Scott’s newfound powers bring him popularity and athletic prowess, but they might be more than he bargained for.
Who’s In It:
Michael J. Fox stars as Scott in this film, which was released the same summer as Back To The Future, Jerry Levine stars as Scott’s friend Stiles, who is essentially a white Kanye West, down to the sunglasses and the purple leather jacket. The film also stars Susan Ursitti and Lorie Griffin
If You Like…:
Michael J. Fox, werewolves as comedy rather than masturbatory material, a white version of Kanye West and the 80s, you’ll dig this.
Special Features:
There’s a trailer for the upcoming MTV series Teen Wolf, which seems to borrow more from the Twilight and Vampire Diaries playbooks than from anything in the film, and there’s the theatrical trailer for the original film, but nothing else.
The Technical Gist
The film looks pretty solid and is clean throughout; a good transfer but nothing too impressive.
The Verdict
Again, I can’t fully recommend this film for purchase unless you absolutely loved it just because there’s not a whole lot there, but if you haven’t seen it I definitely recommend that you QUEUE IT. While Fox’s performance isn’t as strong as in Back To The Future, he’s still very funny, but what I actually enjoyed more was seeing how much of the 80s, especially the wardrobe in this case has come around to be something that you’d expect in a film taking place in a high school today.
