Holy shitballs! Director David Fincher has done it again. Yesterday what was thought to be the international trailer for the highly anticipated American remake of THE GIRLWITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, leaked to the web. Today it’s leading some to suspect this Sony’s very clever viral marketing campaign, which if you stop to think about it, is right in line with Lisbeth Salander’s rebellious spirit and mastery of manipulating the web.
For starters, the trailer is preceded by an MPAA red-band, advising that the preview has been approved by the MPAA for mature audiences. But why would theaters in Europe be showing an MPAA advisory which is aimed at U.S. moviegers? Further evidence that points to a viral campaign is the trailer’s better than average capture. There’s no audience noise, and once it kicks in, there’s no shaking and the sound is perfect.
Lastly, the person who posted GIRL’s trailer, joined YouTube on the same day it was uploaded. Usually, the big studios are all over people who bootleg and so far, it doesn’t appear that Sony is in any rush to take this down.
If we are wrong and it is removed by the studio, we’re sorry. We just couldn’t wait to show you! We think you’ll agree this trailer is pretty badass. Tell us your thoughts below.
