How great is Twitter? It can inspire revolutions across the Middle East and connect movie stars with their fans. The internet is amazing.
RESIDENT EVIL star Milla Jovovich opened up about the franchise through tweets this weekend. Along with a possible shooting location, Jovovich gave away the title of the fifth film.
First, the title (excuse the internet speak):
“I think its called RE: Retribution, but i have to ask paul 2 b sure.”
As for where RETRIBUTION will film, Milla tweeted this:
“I pray 4 japan everyday and i can’t wait 2 go there and shoot the nxt RE!”
It seems that the RE characters will become globetrotters. How do you find a plane in a zombie apocalypse?
Here’s the most interesting bit. Jovovich explains how director (and husband) Paul W.S. Anderson gets inspiration for the series:
“Just to let the RE fans know, ’cause there’s been a bunch of questions about the next film, Paul has kids that are professional players. All they do is play the games until they master every level and unlock every code. They play the games for weeks and give Paul the footage. So, he’s literally watching days of the most awesome RE players out there to get inspiration for the next installment of the franchise.”
I don’t want to tell Paul how to do his job (okay, I do) but maybe basing your direction on a video game isn’t a good idea. Take the story, sure, but instill your own vision, give it more depth. So many video game films (including the RE series) fail because they try to mimic the games and it comes off as hokey and flat. We need more than eye candy! Maybe I’m just a bitter RESIDENT EVIL fan (how hard is it to adapted RESIDENT EVIL 4?!) but I think I’m right.
Much thanks to the fine folks at Shock Till You Drop for transcribing Jovovich’s Twitter feed and cleaning up her English where necessary.
