After just one season of fiddling with the Arthurian legend, Starz has decided to pull the plug on CAMELOT, citing “production challenges.”
Whether the inherent cost of maintaining a series set a century-and-a-half ago or issues regarding the scheduling of certain talent (as proposed by some sources) were the main reason for the shutdown, Starz has opted not to bring it back for season 2.
Enough people were watching that renewal would have made sense, especially considering the wave that may come to medieval-style programming if GAME OF THRONES continues its ascension in its second campaign. But, with SPARTACUS coming back (albeit retooled) early next year and TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY carrying its DOCTOR WHO clout, Starz may have all of its “not-of-our-world” bases covered.
Now that CAMELOT is no more, Jamie Campbell Bower (Arthur), Joseph Fiennes (Merlin) and Eva Green (Morgan) are now free to pursue other projects. The more they work, that’s generally a good thing.
