Ah, David Cronenberg. There are few constants in my life: Batman will always be my hero, the line at the post office will always be long and David Cronenberg movies will always have kinky sex scenes in them. I don’t want to live in a world where that’s not true.
Cronenberg’s latest, A DANGEROUS METHOD, has been given a domestic trailer which isn’t all that different from the international preview we saw awhile back. The biggest difference is that some of the sexual stuff (the spanking mostly) has been trimmed. Don’t worry, you’ll get it all on the big screen. But this movie isn’t just about sex, it’s also about people losing their inhibitions and chasing after what they really, truly desire. If that doesn’t sound like compelling drama, I don’t know what does.
The movie looks quite intriguing and though it has elements that look familiar, it seems like something of a departure for Cronenberg. A period piece is difficult for many directors but he seems to have a good handle on it. The performances will likely be very strong, especially from our three leads (Viggo Mortensen, Michael Fassbender and Kiera Knightley). Will one or all of them walk away with Oscar nods? It’s possible.
So take a look at the new trailer and get your fill of the sexual exploits of Dr. Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud and the young, troubled Sabina Spielrein.
Much thanks to /Film and Ropes of Silicon for the trailer.
