DJANGO UNCHAINED News Roundup

Wow!  Three DJANGO UNCHAINED stories in one day! Perhaps I didn’t get the memo, but today has been filled with news on Quentin Tarantino’s highly anticipated film. The movie is set in the American South of the 1800′s and follows a freed slave (Foxx) who partners with a German bounty hunter (Waltz) in order to find his wife. The bad guy list they encounter is impressive: DiCaprio as a Francophile plantation owner who forces slaves to compete in death matches and Jackson as a vile head slave who works for DiCaprio.

So let us get right to the updates, shall we?

People magazine is reporting Christoph Waltz has been injured on the set and had to miss out on his premiere of CARNAGE at the New York Film Festival. However, don’t be too concerned as his injury won’t affect DJANGO’s production schedule, remains unchanged and is set to shoot in November. Waltz is expected to fully recover. Says his rep,

“Christoph Waltz was injured while training with his horse in preparation for his role. Waltz is currently being treated for a dislocated pelvic bone and is looking forward to getting back in the saddle.”

Next up, The Hollywood Reporter states that Laura Cayouette, who played Rocket in KILL BILL VOL. 2, will be reuniting with the auteur.  She will play will play DiCaprio’s widowed sister, a southern belle who co-owns the plantation with Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Calvin Candie.

Finally, The Hollywood Reporter is also saying that Kurt Russell is in talkls to replace cinematic lunesta Kevin Costner in the film. This would also mark a reunion for the pair, who worked on the overly talkie DEATH PROOF together. Russell would portray Ace Woody, the man who trains slaves to fight for the enjoyment of Calvin Candie (DiCaprio). He’s a brutal and merciless guy and one of Candie’s right-hand men.

What are your thoughts?  We are thrilled at Russell joining the cast and wish Waltz a speedy recovery.
