Another Bin Laden Movie is in the Works

Are you excited for Kathryn Bigelow’s Osama Bin Laden film? Of course you are, Bigelow is a genius. However, a small part of you might be hoping – yearning – for another take on the evil terrorist leader. Maybe something a bit more action oriented? Maybe something from the director of INTO THE BLUE and TURISTAS?

Well you’re in luck! Variety says that film maker John Stockwell will direct CODE NAME GERONIMO, another movie about the demise of Bin Laden. Unlike Bigelow’s film, which will likely have a long timeline and many characters, Stockwell’s movie is about “the military incursion into Bin Laden’s compound from the perspective of a small contingent of Navy SEALS.”  The script is written by Kendall Lampkin.

GERONIMO will focus heavily on the tensions between SEALs members before they learn who their prized target is. Does this mean the film will be like BLACK HAWK DOWN? I’m sure the compound raid was very intense so Stockwell will have no shortage of action beats. There are a lot of ways to do this movie correctly…and a lot of ways to do it wrong.

CODE NAME GERONIMO is scheduled to begin filming in January 2012.
