Justin Timberlake seems to be taking his career seriously. After starting his filmography with lighter fare, he quickly began to take on more sophisticated work. Like any hungry young actor, it seems as if he wants to push himself and try new things.
Working with the Coen Brothers would definitely be a very exciting new thing.
Variety is reporting that the Coens want Timberlake for the co-lead role in INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS, their take on the 1960′s folk music scene. Already cast in the picture is Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan (giving us our first of hopefully many DRIVE reunions). Isaac plays the title character, “a struggling folk musician born and bred in Queens.” Timberlake would be playing Jim, a fellow folk musician and husband to Jean (Mulligan).
Timberlake has been a rising star for several years now. While he had some success early on, his turn in THE SOCIAL NETWORK caught the attention of many and proved the man could hold his own against Hollywood heavy-weights. A Coen Brothers film would be just another big step for Timberlake’s career. I personally think he would do very well in their movie and it would give us a chance to see another, more subtle side of the actor. If the Coens are reaching out to Timberlake then he’d be a fool to say no.
I’m just going to say this now so I can brag when it happens: Justin Timberlake will get an Oscar nomination someday.
