The first trailer for Dr. Seuss’s THE LORAX has arrived online and, you know what, it’s really good. Color me impressed, Universal.
While it’s obvious that director Chris Renaud and his team have tinkered with the original Seuss story, you can’t help but get excited for this film. The imagery is gorgeous, the voices are well-cast, it seems to have heart and it is surprisingly funny. That happens when you put Danny DeVito in anything, it becomes 100% funnier.
The biggest change here is the addition of Ted, the young boy voiced by Zac Efron. In the book, the boy was a small part but he seems to be a major player here, falling for his neighbor (voiced by Taylor Swift) and venturing to find The Lorax in order to impress her. We don’t get much from the Once-ler (played by Ed Helms) but we sure do get a few hearty laughs from The Lorax himself. Could Danny DeVito be any more perfect for this part?
I’ve embedded the trailer and official synopsis below. THE LORAX opens March 2, 2012.
