Warner Bros Picks Matt Reeves for THE TWILIGHT ZONE

Matt Reeves, the director behind CLOVERFIELD and LET ME IN, has landed one of the hottest properties in town: THE TWILIGHT ZONE.

It’s being reported that Reeves is Warner Bros’s choice for the director’s chair on the new film based on the classic anthology series. The film is being written by Jason Rothenberg and produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Michael Ireland. There were many names being tossed around for the project including Michael Bay and Christopher Nolan so Reeves is something of an underdog. Unlike the previous TWILIGHT ZONE film, this one won’t contain several stories, just one that shares the same themes and vibe as the TV show.

Reeves is a fine, fine choice for the film. He’s an accomplished director with two critically acclaimed horror films. If you ask me though, we have yet to really see him show his directorial style. CLOVERFIELD, great as it was, was constrained by the found-footage style while LET ME IN was a remake. Perhaps THE TWILIGHT ZONE will be Reeves’s first chance to show us another side of him.

WB is hoping to go through negotiations with Reeves quickly so the script can be finished and production can start in the summer. Not sure what this news means to his other projects. He is slated to direct the Frankenstein tale THIS DARK ENDEAVOR, THE PASSAGE based on the novel by Justin Cronin and also 8 O’CLOCK IN THE MORNING based on the short story by Ray Nelson. Does one (or all) of these projects get delayed or cancelled?

Now onto the other important decision: will we get a new narrator? Who could possibly rival Rod Serling? No one, that’s who!
