According to CinemaBlend, a long gestating project will start shooting next year. The long gestating project is the Freddie Mercury biopic starring Sacha Baron Cohen. No director is currently attached to the project. But Oscar-winning producer Graham King (THE DEPARTED) seems passionate and resilient about making the film in 2012 with a screenplay by multi-Oscar nominated writer Peter Morgan (THE QUEEN, THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND).

Cohen became famous for his HBO show DA ALI G SHOW and for his spoof/satire movies BORAT and BRUNO. The actor lately taking supporting roles in HUGO (now in theaters) and DJANGO UNCHAINED (Tarantino’s 2012 Western) to show his acting versatility. Cohen I believe has range and will shock audiences with a great performance as rock legend Freddie Mercury.

Freddie touched the entire world with his love-embracing energy and lyrics. 20 years after his death, I paid tribute to him on my artist’s blog with a new portrait at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/11/killer-queen-portrait-of-freddie.html This new work of art is inspired by the words of many of Queen’s songs.
