NBC orders a comedy pilot from Sarah Silverman

Deadline reports that NBC has picked up a comedy from comedian Sarah Silverman for a pilot order. The single camera half hour comedy will star Silverman as a single woman adjusting to her recent breakup and decade long live-in relationship.

Sarah Silverman, one of the most successful and talented female comedians of her generation, seemed destined to get a comedy pilot eventually. Her brand of humor is better suited on an R-rated / cable platform so it will be interesting to see what kind of comedy this show will feature and if she can adapt her humor for an NBC series.

This move comes off the heels of the success NBC has had this season with WHITNEY (and for my money Silverman was / is more popular and funnier than Whitney Cummings). They have also recently greenlight a comedy pilot for Chelsea Handler, so NBC is really pushing for the adult female comedy demo while the other major networks skewer to family or male-centric comedies.
