Variety reports BREAKING DAWN: PART 1 had its premiere in L.A last night and the buzz is building. The movie opens nationwide (4,000 theaters) on Friday. Similar to the way the HARRY POTTER franchise had a huge inflated finish, BREAKING DAWN will experience similar fate at the box office.
It’s an interesting turn, a big box office movie franchise like TWILIGHT to turn the reins over to a veteran director like Bill Condon who lacks genre-type directing in his career so far. But it clearly gives some enthusiasm to critics (who have trashed the series) or non Twi-hards who might be curious to check out the finale(s) to the TWILIGHT franchise (of course in the 3rd or 4th or 5th weekend when the theaters aren’t jam-packed with tweens). This film could be on-par with the previous three films in the series but it also offers Condon a chance to expand his repertoire as a director and for BREAKING DAWN: PART 1 to be more than a big box office hit that critics and all non Twi-hards unanimously loathe, maybe even something a non-fan or a general theater-goer could enjoy.
