What’s Going On?
In 1960s Mississppi, Skeeter returns to her small hometown determined to write something of merit, even though she’s starting with a lowly advice column in her local paper. After meeting with some old friends from her hometown and seeing the way in which they treat their domestics, their African American maids who cook the food and raise their children, but have no rights or respect from their white employers. Skeeter chooses to do something about it by deciding to collect stories from various domestics to shed some light on their hardships. Based on the best-selling book by Kathryn Stockett.

Heartwarming stories, fantastic performances, poop, pie, and shaking the living heck out of a bag of chicken, you’ll enjoy this.
Special Features:
From Friendship to Film is a documentary with Kathryn Stockett and writer/director Tate Taylor that is more about the period and the culture of Mississippi than the actual filmmaking process. It’s still pretty interesting though, and you do get some tidbits on casting and filming on location.
In Their Own Words: A Tribute to the Maids of Mississippi is a featurette are a series of interviews conducted by Tate Taylor and Octavia Spencer with some of the real people who inspired Stockett’s novel.
Lastly, there are five deleted scenes, a music video from Mary J. Blige.
The Technical Gist
The South bursts to life here, with colorful outfits as vivid as the personalities popping off the screen.
The Verdict
I liked this film quite a lot and I think that it has some fantastic performances. While it may not be a classic, it’s definitely worth a QUEUE.Read my review for more.
