What’s Going On?
In this new relaunch of the Transformers television series, those pesky Decepticons are at it again, this time with Megatron more powerful than ever before after discovering Dark Energon, which can bring back Transformers from the dead (ZOMBIE ROBOTS)! It’s up to Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots, with some human friends, to stop Megatron’s plans to destroy the Earth!
Who’s In It:
Peter Cullen and Frank Weller reprise their roles as the voices of Optimus Prime and Megatron respectively, and Dwayne Johnson makes an appearance for a brief second. You might also recongnize the voice of Tania Gunadi from her bit in this glittery Target ad.
If You Like…:
Transformers, robots in disguise, cars, robots, zombies, robot zombies or have a nostalgia for other Transformers series like BEAST WARS from the 90s, then you might want to check this out, especially if you have young kids in your family who love the movies. This has all the robot action of the films, minus the beef (Shia, that is).
Special Features:
There’s not a whole lot here. There are brief videos on character design and production design, which are provided with no commentary and show the transition from sketches to the final product that ended up on screen.
There’s also a animatic sequence from the first episode.
The Technical Gist
Everything looks pretty solid, but I will say that the character design of the Transformers, which gives them all very small oval shaped mouths, got a little creepy after a bit.
The Verdict
Unless you’re really into Transformers and are over the age of about nine, you can SKIP IT. However, if you’ve got young kids to get gifts for this holiday season, this is a pretty fun one.

Wow i have to agree this DVD is terrible, i really hated the CGI design. I am going to skip this one for sure
This is in no way the g-1 transformers of the 80s this is anime crap remake in the 2010`s…
sad really the original is far superior to these crapy asian remakes!
@halen
transformer was originally japanese made and their version was so much better than the crap u watched on tv b4
iv watched the 80s transformers when i was a kid, was cool. halen the transformers in this are based of the resent movies not the 1980s one
@leo
You’re completely wrong. Transformers aired near simultaneously in 1984. Both the US and Japan were showing the same stuff. There wasn’t a huge split until ’87 with the Headmasters stuff and it’s discontinuation on American airwaves. There was never a Transformers in Japan before there was one in the States – at least not by any appreciable time.
Word
if you are a TF fan, then you would be a fan of beastwars, beast machine, and Transformers animated, then you would like this,
but if your going on and on about (80) transformers and want the same one, then its like comparing ‘apples’ to ‘oranges’ and complaining why the ‘apple’ taste bad as there is no ‘citrus’ flavour.
Quality of animation & story is HIGH!
its certainly much better then ‘transformers armada, that was CRAP!’. So if your into a good story, and personally this feel much more closer to the classic TF, except its Updated!
so enjoy it.
