Speak of the Devil: Paradise Lost Postponed

I’m sure a majority of English Lit majors and bibliophiles vomited when Legendary Pictures announced plans to make a 3D film adaptation of John Milton’s seminal epic poem PARADISE LOST, but perhaps now those book lovers can rest at ease. The Alex Proyas directed film has been postponed, though not officially thrown out the window. Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, and producer Incent Newman tells Deadline that they will continue to develop the film and simply adjust the budget, which reportedly was upwards of $120 million. The film was set to star Bradley Cooper as the Devil himself and Benjamin Walker to play the archangel Michael. Diego Boneta and Camilla Belle were set to play Adam and Eve, respectively. There have yet to be any set dates for when the budget will be completely reworked.

How do you feel about great epics such as PARADISE LOST being adapted into action films? Was this worse than when DANTE’S INFERNO was turned into a video game? What classic piece of literature do you think is next for the Hollywood treatment?
