Trailer: Return to Middle-earth in THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY

This has been quite the week for trailers and it’s only Tuesday. Today we finally get our first look at Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, which is Jackson’s first follow-up to THE LORD OF THE RINGS (its companion film, THERE AND BACK AGAIN, opens in 2013).

The trailer is like hanging out with old friends, it’s as if nothing ever changed. The visuals are just as gorgeous, if not more fresh. The characters seem just as colorful and lively and the music by Howard Shore is as remarkable as ever. If I had to complain about one thing (and since this is the internet, I do) it’s that the first half of the trailer felt a little jammed packed, a little cluttered. Introducing all the dwarves by name is fun but not completely necessary. But that’s a minor complaint, this thing looks great.

Can you believe it’s been ten years since THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING first came out? A return to Middle-earth seems like it can’t come soon enough.

THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY opens December 14th, 2012. Head to Apple to see the trailer in HD. Much thanks to Collider for the ultra-quick Youtube upload.
