When we all first heard about THE THREE STOOGES project, we had an inkling it wasn’t going to end well. A passion project from The Farrelly Brothers, it was originally conceived with Jim Carrey, Sean Penn, and Benicio Del Toro in mind. But then the cast went through the proverbial revolving door, what we wound up with was Will Sasso, Sean Hayes, and Chris Diamantopoulos. Is that stunned silence I hear from all of you?
THREE STOOGES humor is for a select group of people in this modern day world. You either like it or you don’t. Personally, I’m not a fan (it wears thin after 10 minutes) but I know people who are. The physical comedy looks exhausting, for both the performer and the viewer. As the trailer shows, it feels very ill-conceived and ill-advised. We will all get to groan and sink deep into our seats when the film opens on April 13.
What are your thoughts? Are you looking forward to the hijinks and pratfalls? When was the last time the Farrelly’s directed a genuinely good comedy? Is this what you expected to see?
