If GLEE and its several spin-offs haven’t tired you of modern day musicals then ROCK OF AGES might be right up your alley. With a star-studded cast of Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Malin Akerman, Paul Giamatti and, of course, Tom Cruise, Adam Shankman’s adaptation of the Broadway smash is chock-full of well-known 80’s hits, colorful sets and dance numbers. It looks fun, even a GLEE novice like myself might find his foot tapping along.
The movie follows a small town girl (living in a lonely world?) and a young man who meet each other on the famous Sunset Strip in L.A. Their romance revolves around a famous night club and its enemies’ attempts to bring it down. But you can’t stop rock n’ roll!
The film seems like it’s not taking itself too seriously, which is good. And it’ll be fun to see Baldwin, Zeta-Jones and Cruise cut loose on the dance floor. As well, people seem to really like the source material so we have a right to be genuinely excited for this, right? Well, unless you’re totally sick of Twisted Sister, Journey and Def Leppard.
ROCK OF AGES opens June 1. The new trailer and poster are below. Head over to Apple to see this puppy in HD.
