HORRIBLE BOSSES, one of the surprise hits of the summer, was definitely a fun time at the theater. However, things got wrapped up pretty nicely by the end; it didn’t seem like a sequel was possible (or necessary).

No matter, a sequel is in the works anyway! THR says that screenwriters John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are returning to pen a second film. But don’t worry, stars Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis are also expected to come back. New Line is in talks with director Seth Gordon too so this could be a complete reunion.

The first film followed three friends as they planned to murder their three respective superiors. The bosses were played by Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell. The movie is still new so I won’t reveal if any of those actors got offed but it’s safe to say they won’t all return.

HORRIBLE BOSSES was a good movie, a lot more fun that most mainstream comedies. However, you have to wonder where a sequel could go. Unlike THE HANGOVER, they should take the characters and put them in a completely new scenario. While the plot was funny, it was really the performers and their chemistry that gave the film life. Let’s see them take on something new rather than just another murder plot (or something similar).

For those questioning a sequel, look at these numbers: HORRIBLE BOSSES cost about $35 million and made $209 million worldwide.
