HBO has a lot of faith in LUCK.
Like it did for GAME OF THRONES and BOARDWALK EMPIRE, the pay cable network has renewed David Milch and Michael Mann’s LUCK for a second season after only one episode. The show, which officially premiered Sunday night, stars Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte and Dennis Farina and revolves around the world of horse-racing and gambling. The pilot episode received pretty positive reviews which is par for the course for most HBO work.
The show didn’t have as strong a start as other HBO hits. It brought in 1.1 million viewers (the same number its preview episode snagged after BOARDWALK EMPIRE back in December). Deadline notes that puts it on pace with other “soft” HBO hits like TREME and BORED TO DEATH (which was cancelled, as you’ll recall). Will LUCK’s ratings rise? Maybe the show will be a critical hit and garner Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. With the cast and crew that it does, that seems possible.
