It Looks Like Benedict Cumberbatch Will Be the Villain in STAR TREK 2

Has the musical chairs casting process of STAR TREK 2 finally come to end?

Deadline and Variety are reporting that British actor Benedict Cumberbatch (of SHERLOCK and TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY fame) has been cast in STAR TREK 2. Deadline didn’t get specific about the part, only that it was major. Variety, on the other hand, says Cumberbatch has landed the part of the film’s villain. That part, rumored to be Kh(aaaaaaaaaaaa)an, originally went to Benicio Del Toro who surprisingly passed. As you can see, Cumberbatch doesn’t resemble Del Toro (or the part’s original performer, Ricardo Montalban). That doesn’t mean he won’t deliver though. People love, love, love Cumberbatch and his musical, Tolkien-like name. And to be clear, we’re not positive he’ll be playing Khan.

Also added to the cast this week are Noel Clarke, Alice Eve and Robocop himself, Peter Weller.

It’ll be a little while before we get confirmation on the villain (and the title) but shooting begins soon. STAR TREK 2 opens May 17, 2013.

Yes, people do love love love Benedict Cumberbatch! He becomes his role so much that you forget that he is Mr. Cumberbatch. Just wait and see…in the meantime, check out Atonement, The Last Enemy, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, War Horse and <3SHERLOCK<3, among others, to see what he can do! This is BIG news!
