Jason Bateman, Seth Gordon and Melissa McCarthy: three people who had a pretty great 2011. McCarthy is on her way to an Oscar nomination for her work in BRIDESMAIDS while Gordon directed Bateman in HORRIBLE BOSSES, another comedy that cleaned up at the box office. Now all three are coming togetherfor the comedy IDENTITY THEFT. Deadline says that Gordon is set to helm the project.
Announced this summer, the film (which Bateman will also produce) was originally about a man whose identity was stolen by another guy. After Bateman saw McCarthy’s turn in BRIDESMAIDS, he decided he’d rather co-star with her instead of another male comedian. I think we can all agree that’s a good call.
The addition of Gordon gives us confidence in the project. HORRIBLE BOSSES wasn’t a brilliant comedy by any means but the cast chemistry was remarkable and the movie moved along at a fast pace. Gordon will be directing based on a script by Steve Conrad (THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS) with a rewrite by Craig Mazin.
Aside from IDENTITY THEFT, Gordon has other projects on his plate. We heard just a couple weeks ago that HORRIBLE BOSSES is getting a sequel with all the major players expected to return.
