Deadline Hollywood says Steven Spielberg is nearing a deal to direct a Moses epic / biopic for Warner Bros with a working title of Gods and Kings which I highly doubt will be the title for the film. It is a tall order taking on Moses and not seeming like it’s a remake of The Ten Commandments which even for Spielberg will be too much. But WB’s wants him to direct a grittier version of Biblical Moses showing him as a warrior.
WB’s would be targeting a 2013 production start with a potential 2014 release date that should definitely be an Oscar contender for 2014. Described as a “gritty Moses biopic in the vein of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.” It will be one of the most anticipated films of the next 2-3 years if the film doesn’t fall through as Spielberg one of the busiest and biggest directors in the business attaches to projects but don’t always happen. This seems like a project to me that Spielberg will be passionate about and one that WB’s definitely wants to make. I can see this as Spielberg’s next project after ROBOPACALYPSE.
