Universal Looking to Bring Back Jim Carrey for BRUCE ALMIGHTY Sequel

Did you know that 2003′s BRUCE ALMIGHTY was a huge hit? It’s true, the film brought in over $500 million worldwide. While its spin-off, EVAN ALMIGHTY, wasn’t nearly as successful, that isn’t to say another film starring Jim Carrey wouldn’t be a runaway success.

Universal seems to feel that way. Variety says the studio is planning another BRUCE sequel, this time bringing back Carrey to star. They’ve hired Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel (HOT TUB TIME MACHINE, YES MAN) to write the script. Tom Shadyac directed both BRUCE and EVAN ALMIGHTY so it’s safe to assume he’ll be associated in some way.

BRUCE ALMIGHTY was about a TV reporter (Carrey) who gets to play God for a week. Though I was raised as a die-hard Carrey fan, I never got around to seeing the film. It seemed like one of those comedies where the format would fall flat quickly and it would wrap itself in a sweet, wholesome message. Was I wrong? Should I check it out all these years later?

Carrey’s last few films haven’t been major smashes so it seems likely that he’d be keen on coming back for BRUCE ALMIGHTIEST (or whatever it’s called).
