Elizabeth Olsen, star of last year’s fantastic MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE, might be moving from an indie hit to an anticipated remake.
Twitch is reporting that Olsen has been offered the female lead in Spike Lee’s remake of OLDBOY. If she took the part, she would star alongside Josh Brolin who has been cast in the starring role. Both Rooney Mara and Mia Wasikowska have passed on the role. The Hollywood Reporter says the deal seems likely.
Olsen would be playing a caseworker who helps Brolin’s character find out why he was imprisoned alone in a room for 15 years. The character was in the original South Korean film and plays a pivotal part in the story. Needless to say, Olsen would be a terrific choice. Her breakout performance in MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE caught the attention of many and garnered nothing but praise. She was just one of the many performers snubbed by the Oscars this year.
But one important casting choice remains. The villain in OLDBOY has yet to be cast. Christian Bale, Colin Firth and Clive Owen were all rumored choices but each actor passed.
