Looks Like That WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER Sequel Is Happening

Last summer, we all heard rumors of a sequel to WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER, the crazy cult comedy from the creators of THE STATE. It was definitely a long shot, director David Wain said he didn’t think it would ever happen. But still, even the idea made fans excited.

Now comes good news from Wain collaborator and star of the film, Michael Showalter. Sitting down on Bravo’s WATCH WHAT HAPPENS LIVE, Showalter enthusiastically confirmed that a sequel was happening. Based on his tone, it seems like this is a sure thing. That’s a major change from last June, when the follow-up seemed highly unlikely.

You can watch the video here (via Huffington Post).

That sounds like confirmation to me!

Naturally, Twitter lit up after the comments were made. Michael Ian Black, one of the film’s stars, had this to say:

Obviously Black would be included in the cast. However, his joke does raise an interesting question: what does Showalter know that we don’t? What changed over the last few months? Is this a direct sequel or just another movie with the same cast? And, most importantly, when the hell is it happening?

So many questions. Let’s hope we hear more about this proposed sequel soon.
