Deadline reports Morgan Freeman is teaming up with Tom Cruise to co-star in Joseph Kosinski’s follow-up to TRON LEGACY in OBLIVION. The film currently features a cast of Tom Cruise, Olga Kurylenko (of QUANTUM OF SOLACE fame) and rising star Andrea Risenborough (currently starring in Madonna’s W.E).
OBLIVION is a post-apocalyptic action/adventure about the last man on Earth (Tom Cruise) who stays behind as an expert to repair ships that hunt down alien species. It is unclear who Freeman will be playing in the film but if I was to ponder a guess it would be a man of some knowledge in this world who may assist Cruise’s character in his journey. One of the best working actors in the business is always a gigantic boon to any film project in development.
OBLIVION was a buzzed about script with Kosinski coming off a box office record breaking worldwide debut with TRON LEGACY, grossing $400 million worldwide. This might not be on my Top 20 must-see list of 2013 (just yet!) but I am curious and interested in how the chips fall on this summer 2013 project.
