R.I.P. PARADISE LOST: Legendary Pictures Pulls The Plug On Angel Epic

The fight between Lucifer and the angel Michael is an epic battle…that you won’t see any time soon.

Deadline, Variety and other sources are saying that Legendary Pictures has officially halted production of PARADISE LOST, Alex Proyas’s big budget production about the archangels duking it out. The picture, which had already been delayed once, was set to start filming in Australia in early summer. Bradley Cooper was going to play Lucifer, Benjamin Walker would have been Michael, Diego Boneta and Casey Affleck would have filled out the cast.

So why is PARADIDE LOST dead? The special effects budget apparently. As you can imagine, a film like this would have needed some cutting edge FX but that costs a pretty penny. The budget was around $120 million, which was too rich for Legendary. While Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and producer Vincent Newman will continue to try and trim the bottom line, this will put an end for the film, at least for the foreseeable future.

As we know, budgetary issues have halted several films recently. Disney had to rework THE LONE RANGER in order to get it to a reasonable number and AKIRA recently got shuttered by Warner Bros because of its high cost. Will PARADISE LOST return with a smaller price tag or remain in heaven forever?
