One of the best things about the STEP UP films – or really any film about dance in the last 15 years – has been it’s ability to rise the dramatic genre and head for some unintentional comedy. With that in mind THE FP, knows its audience and gives them a treat. This is a ferocious nod to big-budget studio action fare and underdog sports dramas of the 1980’s. Um, can you say “cult classic?”
THE FP is a homegrown production and the product of a highly creative filmmaking family. Co-directed by brothers Jason Trost & Brandon Trost. The brothers were joined by their sister, Sarah Trost, who designed 40 iconic costumes for the characters in the film and their father, Ron Trost, who co-produced and handled special effects.
In a dystopian future, a relentless turf war rages. Two rival gangs feud for control of rural wasteland Frazier Park (‘The FP’) in the deadly arena of competitive dance-fight video game “Beat-Beat Revelation.” After hometown hero BTRO is slain on the dance platform by thug leader L Dubba E, his protégé younger brother JTRO (Jason Trost) goes into isolation, vowing never to duel again. One year later, The FP is in ruins, and JTRO must find the courage to return and restore order in a ruthless battle for revenge that can only leave one man dancing. From the producers of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY and featuring narration by James Remar (THE WARRIORS), THE FP is a fury of fierce footwork, triumphant montages and neon street wear.
THE FP opens on March 16. Check out the newest red band trailer below and share your thoughts.
