A VERY HAROLD & KUMAR CHRISTMAS
Synopsis: Everyone’s favorite stoners are back – IN 3D. Neil Patrick Harris returns in spite of his death in the previous film.
Tomatometer Rating: 69% (No, I’m not making that up)
Special Features: There’s an extended version of the film, some shorts with Thomas Lennon, a look at the film’s claymation sequence and deleted scenes.
Deals: Amazon and Best Buy have the blu-ray combo pack, which includes a digital copy, for $22.99.
Buy/Queue/Skip: While I’m not usually a fan of stoner humor, something about the Harold & Kumar movies has always appealed to me, and this film is no exception. If you’ve got a 3DTV, definitely check this movie out in 3D, since it makes great use of the format. QUEUE IT.
LADY AND THE TRAMP (Diamond Edition)
Synopsis: The Disney classic featuring a love story between dogs from different sides of the tracks (literally) comes to hi-def. Makes for a bella notte.
Tomatometer Rating: 88%
Special Features: As per usual with Disney’s films, the release is stuffed to the gills. It includes never before deleted scenes and songs, Disney’s Second Screen functionality, and tons more featurettes on almost every other aspect of the film.
Deals: Target has the blu-ray combo pack for $22.99.
Buy/Queue/Skip: This is the movie that had you making a mess of your spaghetti with your face and is one of the sweetest animated films ever. BUY IT. It makes a great Valentine’s gift, even if you’re #foreveralone like me.
Also Available This Week
Roland Emmerich makes an action film out of Shakespeare by questioning the validity of his writing in ANONYMOUS.
ABC Family takes their stab at a Lifetime-style movie with CYBERBULLY, which manages to deal with a serious subject that affects teenagers across the country, but also has scenes like this gem, which somehow are not so much emotionally impactful as they are hilarious.
The Disney Channel original movie GEEK CHARMING starring Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland, is also available. I’ll be reviewing the film later this week, and I plan on braiding my hair and organizing my nail polishes while I do it.
The Second Season of Rocko’s Modern Life is available and this Friday at midnight, BREAKING DAWN PART 1 is available, so I’ll get to be disappointed by the lack of demon vampire babies all over again.
Manny’s Pick
My pick for this week is DOWNTON ABBEY SERIES TWO. The British series/miniseries – with its eight episodes seasons, it seems to tread the line between the two – picks up in the midst of World War I and things at Downton continue to get more complicated as the war blurs the line between the classes, and I’ve been loving every minute of it. The second series of the show has, at least based on my completely unscientific research been a much bigger hit than last season, and Twitter seems explode with Downton every snuday night garnering praise from the likes of Vanity Fair, comedian and actor Patton Oswalt and even an account dedicated to the housemaid O’Brien’s Bangs. It’s all the soapy goodness you want out of a television, with a little period drama thrown in for good measure.
See you next week!
