If you follow the same people I do on Twitter, you would have noticed a ton of chatter coming out of The Sundance Film Festival last month about the film BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD. Director Benh Zeitlin’s film generated perhaps the largest amount of buzz emanating from that snow covered festival. So much so, Fox Searchlight snatched it right up within the first few days of fest. Now the film has gotten itself a theatrical release date of June 29.
Here is the film’s official synopsis:
In a forgotten but defiant bayou community cut off from the rest of the world by a sprawling levee, a six-year-old girl exists on the brink of orphanhood. Buoyed by her childish optimism and extraordinary imagination, she believes that the natural world is in balance with the universe until a fierce storm changes her reality. Desperate to repair the structure of her world in order to save her ailing father and sinking home, this tiny hero must learn to survive unstoppable catastrophes of epic proportions.
From what I’ve heard from those who saw it, it’s nothing short of a jaw-dropping masterpiece. Needless to say, I’m totally ready for this film to come to masses. What say you?
