I’ve got to say, this remake of CARRIE doesn’t sound half bad. This is how remakes should be done.
We’ve got Kimberly Peirce directing the feature and now one of the best young actresses around is in talks to join as the titular Carrie White. Deadline says Chloe Moretz was offered the role this weekend after meeting with Peirce and really hitting it off. There have been other names rumored for the part, from Dakota Fanning to Haley Bennett.
Like Sissy Spacek before her, Moretz (if she takes the role) will play the young, tormented high schooler who realizes she has psychic abilities after her fellow students make her life a living hell. But don’t worry, young Carrie gets her revenge. The story is of course based on Stephen King’s debut novel and while the De Palma film is considered a classic by many, the selection of Peirce (STOP LOSS, BOYS DON’T CRY) as director suggests this’ll be a very different take on the material.
Now that it looks like Carrie has been cast, it’s time to figure out who’ll play her crazy mother. This is role that many actresses would devour and, given the people involved, there will probably be quite a few interested. Who would be the best choice to yell “They’re all going to to laugh at you?”
