You read that right. Charles is goona be in charge again… well, not exactly. The former Chachi to Erin Moran’s Joanie is going to star in a new Nick at Nite scripted sitcom called, DADDY’S HOME. In the show, Baio will play a TV star who has made his bones playing a sitcom dad and feels like it’s time to come home and be a stay at home father. The plot sounds a little tired but this is Nick at Nite’s first foray into wholly original non-scripted TV (save for a blip in the early 90s) and sister network TV Land has had some success with it’s slate of sitcoms that are chock-full of familiar plots and actors.
Baio has done his share of reality TV work, so he isn’t exactly an unfamiliar face to youngish audience members, though he is still best known as either Chachi on HAPPY DAYS, Charles from CHARLES IN CHARGE, or as the guy from that show who didn’t go all cuckoo for Christy-puffs.
Nick at Nite gave the show a 20 episode pick-up, but there is no word yet on when it will air. The show is produced by former WONDER YEARS older brother/bully Jason Hervey and former WCW Wrestling Exec Eric Bischoff, the two also worked on Baio’s former reality show, SCOTT BAIO IS 45…AND SINGLE. So that’s nice, it’s like a little ENTOURAGE thing going on. Now that is a show I would watch, providing they could CGI in the ghost of Tom Bosley to play the “Turtle” role.
