If you go see THE HUNGER GAMES this weekend (and who won’t be?!), chances are you will also be treated to the new teaser trailer for author Stephanie Meyer’s, THE HOST. While there are no vampires or werewolves to be seen, it does offer a different kind of love triangle.
“It’s kind of an alien love story,” director Andrew Niccol (GATTACA, IN TIME) tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue, which features an exclusive first look at the film.
Irish actress Saoirse Ronan plays Melanie, one of the world’s last remaining free spirits. As an alien named Wanderer assumes control of Melanie’s soul, Melanie’s remaining emotions still draw her to a handsome human named Jared (Max Irons). Diane Kruger, who plays Seeker, an alien sent to regulate the takeover of Earth’s population.
Here’s the official synopsis:
THE HOST is a riveting story about the survival of love and the human spirit in a time of war. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed.
The teaser below doesn’t show much, but color us intrigued. THE HOST stars Saoirse Ronan (HANNA, THE LOVELY BONES, ATONEMENT), Max Irons (RED RIDING HOOD), Jake Abel (I AM NUMBER FOUR, PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS), Diane Kruger (INGLORIOUS BASTARDS, UNKNOWN), William Hurt (INTO THE WILD, THE INCREDIBLE HULK) and Frances Fisher (TITANIC).
Take a look at the teaser below (thanks Yahoo!) and tell us your thoughts. It will be interesting to see how Meyer’s sci-fi fantasy will connect with audiences. Will they embrace it as much as they have the TWILIGHT series?
THE HOST will be in theaters everywhere March 29, 2013.
