Over the past couple years director Joseph Kahn (TORQUE), has been pounding the pavement to land a distribution deal for his newest (and self-financed) film, DETENTION. And thank God that finally he did! Considering that one of his actors (who also serves as a producer here), Josh Hutcherson, is starring in the number one film in the country (ahem, HUNGER GAMES), now is the right time to release his insanely fantastic horror-comedy to the nation.
DETENTION, is a wickedly smart teen horror-comedy where the local students of Grizzly Lake must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is Cinderhella, a slasher movie killer who has seemingly come to life. It becomes a race against time to stop the killer and save the world – if only they can get out of detention.
The film is written by Kahn and Mark Palermo and also stars, Dane Cook, Spencer Locke, Shanley Caswell, Aaron David Johnson, Walter Perez, Erica Shaffer, Parker Bagley, and Alison Woods.
And guess what folks?! Months ago, I was treated to a special screening of the film and I went bonkers over it. Crackling, whip smart dialogue makes this an incredibly fun, hilarious, and entertaining flick. One that I believe is way ahead of its time. Dare I mention the words “cult” and “classic?”
Take a look at the trailer below and go see the film when it hits cineplexes on April 13.
