There are a lot of bad ass actors in the world but very few are cooler than Gary Oldman. As well, there are a lot of bad ass rock stars in the world but very few are as hip and talented as Jack White. Let’s put these two together, shall we?
Pitchfork is reporting that Oldman will direct a live webcast of White’s April 27th show at New York’s Webster Hall. The performance will be part of Youtube’s “American Express Unstaged” series which has also featured concerts from Duran Duran (directed by David Lynch) and Arcade Fire (directed by Terry Gilliam). Obviously, Youtube and American Express are in the business of bringing bad asses together.
While this might be Oldman’s first time directing a concert, he’s been behind the camera once before, directing 1997’s East London drama NIL BY MOUTH. Here’s hoping that directing the concert will get Oldman’s juices flowing again and he’ll take on another full-length feature. Hell, maybe he’ll even cast Jack White in it. Maybe this will be the first of many collaborations between the two! How about a new band: The White Oldman Band! That actually sounds more boring than it should.
Here’s a great performance of Jack White performing with Conan O’Brien (who sadly won’t be at the New York livestream):
