Ever wondered what an adaptation of a best-selling pregnancy manual would look like? Well, here you go! Starring Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks, Brooklyn Decker and Anna Kendrick, this romcom follows five couples whose intertwined lives are turned upside down by the challenges of impending parenthood. As you would expect, hijinks and hilarity are bound to ensue. That’s what raising a child is all about, right?!
Here is the official synopsis:
Over the moon about starting a family, TV fitness guru Jules and dance show star Evan find that their high-octane celebrity lives don’t stand a chance against the surprise demands of pregnancy. Baby-crazy author and advocate Wendy gets a taste of her own militant mommy advice when pregnancy hormones ravage her body; while Wendy’s husband, Gary, struggles not to be outdone by his competitive alpha-Dad, who’s expecting twins with his much younger trophy wife, Skyler. Photographer Holly is prepared to travel the globe to adopt a child, but her husband Alex isn’t so sure, and tries to quiet his panic by attending a “dudes” support group, where new fathers get to tell it like it really is. And rival food truck chefs Rosie and Marco’s surprise hook-up results in an unexpected quandary: what to do when your first child comes before your first date?
We’ve seen Gary Marshall have a stranglehold on the romantic comedy ensemble genre for the past couple years now. It might be interesting to see how someone else can make this genre work to greater/ better effect. I have hope that it might not be as bad as it could be, as it was written by Heather Hach, who wrote the terminally fun and adorable LEAGALLY BLONDE. But maybe this is just the #cinematiccutter in me having a change of heart.
The ensemble comedy also stars Chace Crawford, Matthew Morrison, Dennis Quaid, Chris Rock, Rodrigo Santoro, Ben Falcone and Joe Manganiello, WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING is due May 18.
