Roland Lives? Ron Howard Tweets About THE DARK TOWER

I don’t want to get your hopes up, DARK TOWER fans. It’ll be a long time before we see Roland Deschain come to life on the big or small screen. But Ron Howard, the man who was putting the massive project together before Universal backed away, isn’t losing hope. In fact, he’s still working on things and seems excited. If he’s excited, shouldn’t we be too?

Howard, who’s quite the Twitter fiend, gave us this tweet yesterday:

“Very positive”? That’s good to hear! But what does that mean? Does it mean the budget will be trimmed enough to entice Universal to pick up the project again? Or does it mean that another studio, perhaps Warner Bros, has interest in pursuing the adaptation?

When we last left THE DARK TOWER, Universal had decided the three movie/two TV season project was just too massive. They decided that Howard and writer Akiva Goldsman could shop the franchise elsewhere. Well, then Howard moved onto other projects, notably his racing picture RUSH. The chance of a DARK TOWER movie sank further and further away.

But Howard obviously still has interest. While that’s good news, it still seems like it’ll be awhile before we hear or see anything official. But we can wait. DARK TOWER fans are very, very good at waiting.
