CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 has a director. Make that directors.
Variety reports that Anthony and Joe Russo are in final negotiations to helm the superhero sequel. The Russo Brothers have been floated as possible choices for months now, along with F. Gary Gray (THE ITALIAN JOB) and George Nolfi (THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU). In many ways, the Russos are the most surprising choice because of their previous work. Producers best known for their comedies, the brothers have previously directed episodes of ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, HAPPY ENDINGS and COMMUNITY, which they also produced. Not exactly the first guys you’d think of for an anticipated comic book blockbuster.
But Marvel and Disney like what the Russos have planned for the film so they’re apparently getting the go-ahead. I’m excited to see what they do with the property, even if I have no idea where it’s headed. The movie being kept under wraps so it’s hard to guess where they’ll take CAPTAIN AMERICA 2. The first film took place almost completely in the 1940′s but now, post-AVENGERS, Cap is living in the modern world. How will that affect him and the story? Will he remain a part of S.H.I.E.L.D. or go off on his own? Will his suit get upgraded? Will he discover hip hop?
