CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER has a new title and now it has a new cast member.
Heat Vision says Anthony Mackie (THE HURT LOCKER, ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER) is in talks to play The Falcon in the Marvel follow-up. The Falcon (a.k.a. Sam Wilson) was a Harlem social worker until he gained the ability to talk with birds and acquired a suit that allowed him to fly. The Falcon, Marvel’s first African-American superhero, fought alongside Captain America throughout much of the 1970′s.
It remains to be seen how the character will tie into the under-wraps story (scripted by Stephen McFeely) but I hope he suits up and kicks ass alongside Cap (or flying above him). I also hope we get to see some talking birds. Aside from the character’s cool powers and the spot-on casting of Mackie (who’s always stellar) this is good news because it’s about damn time we finally get a big screen black superhero.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, is set to open April 4, 2014.
